Test drive date change

The test drive fundraiser for the benefit of Danville High School’s FCA booster club at Bob Allen Chrysler Dodge Jeep Fiat will not take place on Saturday as originally announced. The date has been changed to Oct. 27.

Homemaker’s Group being organized

LANCASTER — An informational meeting about the organization of a new homemaker’s group will be held 2:30 p.m. Sept. 19 at the Garrard Educational Center cafeteria, 322 West Maple Ave., Lancaster.

The group is a joint partnership between Garrard County U.K. Cooperative Extension Service’s Food and Consumer Science Dept., Garrard County Community Education Program and Garrard County School Nutrition Program.

This new opportunity is for anyone who has often thought they would like to join a homemaker’s group and haven’t. Annual membership fee is $7 and additional meetings will be scheduled at a later date. For more information, call Kathy Barlow at (859) 792-3018 or Mary Hixon at 792-3026.

Retired teachers to meet

The Danville, Boyle County, KSD Retired Teachers Association will meet at noon on Monday, Sept.11 at the Boyle County Cooperative Extension Office, 99 Corporate Drive (off Lebanon Road ). Lunch is $8, so those who plan to attend need to reserve a lunch. If you have not been contacted by Sept. 7, text or call Alice Reynolds, (859) 319-2408.

The organization is promoting membership in order to have staff at the state level to work with the legislature to keep our pension secure. 

This is the only organization in the state which the main purpose is to look out for the welfare of retired teachers. Teachers are urged to join at the state level if you are unable to join or attend locally.

Local dues are $10, state dues, $20. State dues can be remitted to: Kentucky Retired Teachers Association,  7505 Bardstown Road, Louisville, KY 40291.

Labor Day closings

The following Boyle County offices will be closed on Monday, Sept. 4 in observance of the Labor Day Holiday — The Advocate-Messenger; Boyle County Courthouse; Boyle County Public Library; Danville-Boyle County Animal Shelter; recycling center; and all convenience centers.Test drive date change

GED instruction offered at Lincoln library 

STANFORD — SKILLS U presents GED instruction 1-3 p.m. Thursdays at the Lincoln County Public Library, 201 Lancaster St, Stanford. GED instruction taught by knowledgable staff, available face-to-face and online, designed to help make tough subjects more understandable. Free course. For information, call (606) 365-9665. 

Masonic breakfast

Danville’s Franklin Masonic Lodge will have a country breakfast 7-10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 2 at the lodge hall, 400 North Fourth St. The menu includes pork tenderloin, country ham, sausage, bacon, pancakes, eggs, potatoes, biscuits, gravy, coffee, orange juice and pastries. Everyone is welcome.

Boyle Health Department budget available

The Boyle County Health Department and Boyle County Health Taxing District budget can be views anytime on the Department for Local Government’s Public Portal website. To view the most recent audit, you may visit the BCHD, located at 448 South Third St., Danville, during regular business hours: Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Tuesday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Friday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Correction

The Danville Board of Education lowered the real estate property tax to 94.5 cents per $100, as the article ” Danville board lowers tax rate” says, but left the tangible property tax at 95.5 cents per $100.
