DAR accepting scholarship applications

Seniors in the local high schools may apply for two Daughters of the American Revolution scholarships between now and Dec. 1, 2017.

The Kentucky Society Daughters of the American Revolution (KSDAR) is sponsoring a $1,000 scholarship to one senior in Kentucky. The applicant does not have to have any connection with DAR in order to be eligible.

To apply for the KSDAR scholarship, local students should see their guidance counselor for information and application form. Any number of students may apply on the local level. Guidance counselors then send the application packets to the scholarship chairperson of the St. Asaph Chapter by

Dec. 1, 2017. One student will then be selected to represent the chapter on the state level.

The local winner will be recognized at the February meeting of St. Asaph Chapter.

Students may also apply directly for a National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.

Interested students should go to www.members.dar.org/committees/scholarships.htm for information and application forms. These competitive scholarships have various dates, so students should be aware of restrictions.

National scholarships are sent directly to the NSDAR and not to the counselors or local chair.

Meetings

Danville-Boyle County Planning and Zoning — 9 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6 at Danville City Hall. Items on the agenda include: release the LOC for Barry Metcalf, Centre Estates from First State Financial to First Southern National Bank for $130,000; approvals for Jack Godbey on 720 Quarry Road; Larry and Regina Sapp on Oscar Bradley Road, and Marc Van Steenlandt at 179 Goggin Lane.

Public hearings will be for: zoning ordinance text amendment for the Architectural Heritage Board titled “City of Danville Kentucky, Historic Overlay District Design Guidelines”; site plane for D&H Real Estate LLC, which has applied for approval of a site plan for a dialysis clinic on 1.46 acres located at 100 Woodlawn Way and is zoned NCR-C (neighborhood center commercial); Danville Christian Academy has applied for approval of a site plan for a gymnasium on 24.78 acres located at 2170 Shakertown Road that is zoned AR-1 (agricultural-residential); Danville Convention Center has applied for approval of a site pan for a warehouse/storage on about 11 acres located at 1001 Ben-Ali Drive that is zoned HC; Danville McDonald’s has applied for approval of a site plan to replace the existing restaurant with a new building on 1.13 acres located at 280 Jane Trail and is zoned HC.

New reports include Budget, Personnel committees, legal report, zoning permits and announcements. The next scheduled meeting is Oct. 4.

DHS band, dealership partner for test-drive fundraiser

Stuart Powell is once again bringing Ford Motor Company’s Drive 4 UR School program to the Danville area in an effort to raise up to $6,000 for the Danville High School Band program.

For every driver, age 18 or older with a valid driver’s license, who takes the wheel and test-drives a new Ford vehicle at Stuart Powell on Saturday, September 9, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., Ford Motor Company will donate $20 to the Danville High School Band program.

“We see (and have experienced personally) how difficult it is for many school programs to raise money, and we are excited about opportunities like this to do our part to help make sure these programs are available for as many students as possible who want to participate, and that those programs have what they need to succeed,” said Robert Cunningham, Community Manager at Stuart Powell Ford Lincoln Mazda.

Volunteers with the Danville High School band program will be on hand to get test drivers registered and accompanied on the test-drive route. Dealership consultants will be only a request away regarding additional information about each vehicle available for test-drive.

Participants must be 18 or older and have a valid driver’s license. All test-drives will last approximately 10 minutes.

Community health forum in Mercer

HARRODSBURG — The James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital’s September Community Health Forum will be held  from noon to 1 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 14 at The Mercer County Public Library. Lunch will be provided. Elizabeth Moffett, Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with 

James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital’s Pulmonary Rehabilitation Department, will present “One Breath at a Time”, an informative program on the benefits of pulmonary rehabilitation and how you can achieve optimal lung health.
