Casey County traveled to 6A Jeffersontown Friday  looking for its first victory against a 6A school.

The Rebels got just that, cruising past the hosts 36-0.

“Our defense definitely dominated the game,” head coach Steve Stonebraker said. “Ethan Ammons, Reece Brown and Tristan Elmore played their best games this year. Ethan Parton made a ton of plays. Dalton Lawrence and A.J. Glenn had their typical big performances.”

The Rebels were on the board after a four-yard run from Glenn, four minutes gone in the first quarter.

Britt Pendleton received a pass from Austin Campbell to put Casey ahead 14-0 after one quarter of play. The second drive was 12 plays and it started on the Casey 4-yard line.

“For the second-straight game, we had a 90-plus yard drive on offense. We did some really good things early scoring on our first three drives, and then shot ourselves in the foot too much. We have to be more consistent on that side of the ball than we were tonight, for sure. However, I am proud of the effort they gave.”

Preston Tucker punched in an 18-yard run to put Casey ahead 21-0 at halftime.

In the third quarter, Dalton Summers scored on a 1-yard run and Elmore recorded a safety to push Casey ahead 30-0.

“We were able to get two turnovers on back-to-back drives with Luke Moore recovering a fumble and Britt Pendleton getting an interception. Tristan Elmore’s sack for the safety was a big-time play.”

Tucker had a three-yard run in the fourth quarter to cap the scoring.

“We did a great job putting pressure on them tonight and got a ton of negative yardage plays,” Stonebraker said. “To hold a team for 23 yards rushing on 28 attempts is huge.

“Our defensive line of Austin Campbell, Andrew Mercer and Collin Allen controlled the line of scrimmage in a big way.”

It was a return for Stonebraker, who coached at Jeffersontown in 2015 before returning to Casey County in 2016.

“It was different to be on the other sideline at J’Town, for sure,” Stonebraker said. “It was great to see so many of the good people there. I coached some of those upperclassmen that are still there. They competed well after being down big early in the game. They have nothing to hang their heads about.”

The win pushes Casey County to 4-0 in 3A, now one of just two teams that remains undefeated in the class.
