THEATER

Mare Rider, Oct. 19-22 and 26-28 at Jacobs Hall on campus of Kentucky School for the Deaf. The American premiere of the play, produced by Scarlet Cup Theater. Fashioned after an age-old mythology of spirits who hover around her death, Mare Rider is by Turkish writer Leyla Nazli. Play premiered in England in 2013. Directed by Tony Haigh, play stars Kristina Ives, Caitlyn Leonard, Walter Eng and Sharon Sikorski. The award-winning KSD culinary arts team will provide homemade treats at the Thursday performances as a team fundraiser. Horizon: Contemporary Landscape, the eighth annual juried landscape exhibition challenges the traditional definition of landscape art with fresh new interpretations; and Infinity, a collaboration by the Gathering Artists, Danville’s longest-standing artist society. The Modern Landscape, through Nov. 4 at New Editions Gallery, 500 W. Short St., Lexington. Whether defined by strong deliberate lines and color or by intuitive atmospheric suggestions, the modern landscape has a huge language of possibilities and interpretations.
