Boyle, Mercer have incarceration problem

Dear Editor,

Are you kidding me? “Rocket docket?” Our Boyle/Mercer county criminal justice reduced to rhymes and limericks?! Don’t be fooled fellow citizens, the facts remain. The Administrative Office of the Courts has made it abundantly clear. The powers at Fourth and Main streets imprison a higher percentage of innocent people than anywhere else in the entire state of Kentucky. We’re number one.

In fact, for the past five years, they have imprisoned on average 30 percent more innocent people for longer periods of time. And to be clear, this costs you big money. Thirty percent of a typical jail day population is about 105 inmates. At $30 a day yielding a yearly increased cost to you and me of $1,149,750. Makes you want to say, hmmmmmm.

Fourth and Main should refrain

from filling up our jail.

For Fourth and Main have disdain

their power to curtail.
