Ephraim McDowell Health sponsoring free flu shot clinic 

Ephraim McDowell Health is sponsoring a free flu shot clinic at Lexington Avenue Baptist Church in Danville. The free clinic will be offered from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 25. Walk-ins are welcome and flu shots are available for anyone 18 years of age and older. Appointments can be made by calling (859) 236-3565.

St. Asaph DAR Meeting at the Danville Country Club on Friday, October 13 at 11:30 a.m. Any woman 18 years or older, regardless of race, religion, or ethnic background, who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution, is welcome to meet with us at the Danville Country Club this coming Friday.  

Bradfordsville Jamboree 

Bradfordsville Jamboree will be held Friday, Oct. 13 at the Old Bradfordsville School Gym. Admission is $10. Doors open at 5 p.m. Music begins at 7 p.m. Kentucky South (Phillip Clarkson) with special guest Christy Miller. Meal includes pulled pork barbecue, baked beans, potato salad, dessert, drink – $9. Concessions include hot dogs, chili dogs, chips, popcorn, candy bars, etc. All food is sold separately. For more information, call (270) 337-4666 or (270) 337-2832. Chili Cook-Off and Spooktacular Festival

The City of Crab Orchard is hosting a Chili Cook-Off and Spooktacular Festival on Saturday, Oct 28 on Main Street. Events will run from 3 to 11 p.m. Entry fee for chili cook off is $10 and the winner takes all. Cooking time starts at 3 p.m., tasting will begin at 5 p.m. and judging will stop at 7 p.m. Tasting and judging fee is $5 per person to purchase bracelet in order to eat, taste and judge entries. There also will be adult pumpkin carving contests, children pumpkin painting contest, children costume contest, cake and pie auction, sack races, pumpkin roll, hay rides and a street dance with band Lawless. Contact Crab Orchard City Hall for more information.

Sister Cities Commission — 1 p.m. today (Wednesday, Oct. 11) at Danville City Hall. Items on the agenda include: financial update; discussion of artist exchange and concerns; continued discussion of “Search for Tinker Doyle” sequel.

Junction City City Council — 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12 at city hall. Items on the agenda include: Earl Coffey with the City of Danville to discuss the new sewer rates; setting hours for Trick or Treat. 

Perryville City Council — 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12 at the community center. Agenda is to discuss the 2017-2018 tax rates. 

Perryville City Council — 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17 at the community center. Agenda is to have first reading of the 2017-2018 tax rates.

McDowell Wellness Center offering swim lessons

McDowell Wellness Center is offering two sessions of swim lessons. Participants can choose to attend session one that will meet Monday through Thursday at 11 a.m. for two weeks beginning on Monday, Oct. 16 or session two that will meet each Tuesday and Thursday for four weeks beginning on Tuesday, Oct. 17.  Participants can also choose to attend the 5 p.m. or 6 p.m. class for session two.  Each lesson is 45 minutes. 

 Classes are available for all age groups and are taught by certified instructors.  Please call McDowell Wellness Center at (859) 936-WELL (9355) for a detailed list of class times and levels.

Ephraim McDowell Health sponsoring free health screenings

Ephraim McDowell Health is sponsoring a free health screening from 4:30-6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19 at Gethsemane Baptist Church in Danville. Walk-ins are welcome but appointments are recommended. To schedule an appointment, call (859) 236-2581.

 Health screenings that will be offered are cholesterol, glucose, blood pressure, body mass index, flu shots and stroke-risk scorecard. After the screenings are complete, participants will have the opportunity to discuss their results with a licensed health professional.

 Participants should not eat 12 hours prior to their screening if they would like to have the blood test that gives them a full lipid panel. This gives the participant detailed information including their HDL, LDL, triglycerides and glucose.  Medications except for diabetic medications may be taken with water.

 The screenings are open to the public for anyone 18 years of age and older.
