Ferko, Frankel wedding

Christine Marie Ferko, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Gerard Ferko, of Prospect, and Winfield McKee Frankel, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph N. Frankel, III, of Danville, were married at half after six o’clock on October 7th, 2017, in the Bluegrass Room of the Brown Hotel in Louisville. The Honorable Jeffrey L. Dotson officiated the ceremony. Music was provided by the Highland Chamber Players. A black tie reception followed in the Crystal Ballroom of the Brown Hotel.

Ladies of Honor were Lydia Lorraine Curtz, of Lexington, Tate Bennett Roman of Washington, D.C., and Amanda Marie Clark, of Danville. Gentlemen of Honor were Joseph (“Jay”) N. Frankel, IV, of New York, New York, Morgan Montgomery Griffin, of Fairbanks, Alaska, and John “Casey” Clark, of Danville. Rose Marion Elam, of Fort Worth, Texas and Andrew Sean Kalina, of Sarasota, Florida served as Ceremony Attendants.

The bride, 29, was presented in marriage by her father, William Ferko, a Financial Management Consultant in Louisville. The bride’s mother, Deborah Ferko, runs the family’s horse farm, Turning Leaf, in Crestwood. The bride is a graduate of Assumption High School, Centre College, where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Government and was a member of Tri Delta sorority, and the University of Louisville’s Brandeis School of Law. She currently serves as Corporate Counsel for Steel Technologies LLC in Louisville.

The groom, 30, is the great-grandson of Joseph N. Frankel, founder of The Hub Frankel Department Store in Danville, which was owned and operated by the family from 1914 through 1996. The groom’s father, Joseph Frankel, oversees Glendale, the family farm; his mother, Marsha Frankel, retired from her law practice in 2005. The groom is a graduate of Danville High School, the University of Kentucky, where he received his Bachelor of Arts degrees in History and Political Science and was a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity, and the University of Dayton School of Law. He currently practices with Helton, Walter & Noelker in Danville.

The couple met while serving in the wedding party of Casey and Amanda Clark in 2014, and began dating in 2015. They will honeymoon in South Africa in February of next year.

Garden Club of Danville

At the October meeting of the Garden Club of Danville several members demonstrated the creation of flower arrangements in different styles. Left to right, Alice Biggers, Jennifer Shevlin, and Jan Messamore helped take the fear out of floral design by deftly creating a beautiful arrangement in 10 minutes or less.  Kay Arnold also showed members how to make a fall decoration from dried materials.

Homemakers news briefs

As we celebrate Homemakers Week, the Boyle County Homemakers Association would like to recognize Faith Rodgers as their 2017 Scholarship recipient. Miss Rodgers is currently attending Eastern Kentucky University where she is pursuing a degree in Elementary Education. The Boyle County Homemakers are also very excited to announce that due to a generous donation they will be able to increase their annual scholarship to $1000 starting in 2018. Information about the scholarship can be picked up at the Boyle County Extension Office at 99 Corporate Drive or check with your local guidance counselors in the coming weeks. The scholarship is available to current high school seniors in Danville/Boyle County who plan to major in the field of Family and Consumer Science or related discipline.

Cattlemen’s Association Scholarship awarded

John Helm, of the Boyle County Cattlemen’s Association is presenting Taylor Graves a scholarship sponsored by the Cattlemen. Taylor is a freshman at UK majoring in animal science.
