Tricksters in tales

- Phyllis Passariello, retired Centre College anthropology professor, discusses folklore and the attributes of "trickster" characters in all cultures' folklore Sunday afternoon at the Boyle County Public Library. The discussion, "Mythic Women of our Dreams" was presented by Passariello, and director Anthony Haigh, left, in advance of the Scarlet Cup Theater's latest dramatic presentation "Mare Rider." Passariello said the character "Mare Rider" evolved from the word, "maere" which means demon or evil spirit.
Scarlet Cup Theater’s “Mare Rider” goes up at Jacobs Hall on Kentucky School for the Deaf’s campus Oct. 19-21 and 26-28. For both Thursday performances, the award-winning KSD culinary arts team will provide homemade treats for sale as a team fundraiser.
