Don Sawyer

1944-2017

Don Sawyer, 73, of Perryville, Kentucky, died Saturday, October 14, 2017. Don was born January 12, 1944, in East Bernstadt, Kentucky, to the late Ed Lee and Mattie Tye Sawyer. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Betty Van Winkle Sawyer.

Don was a member of Mitchellsburg Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing, riding his tractor on the farm, working on cars, giving folks a hard time and animals. The cows were “his girls” and he had a special friend, “Tom the cat”. Don could be found every day in his favorite chair at the “shop”.

In addition to his wife, Don is survived by two sons, Buck (Angie) and Ronnie (Trina) Sawyer; Son-in-law, Scott Wethington; seven grandchildren, Heather and Cruz Hasty, Alysha (Keaton) Henderson, Erika (Robert) Lee, Chelsea Sawyer, Bryan (Ashley) and Mikey Wethington; three great grandchildren, Kelton and Karley Wethington, and Noah Henderson; and one sister, Jean Gabhart.

Don was preceded in death by a daughter, Sue Wethington; a granddaughter, Christen Sawyer; and three brothers.

The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at Walden Funeral Home Perryville with burial to follow in Parksville Cemetery. Rev. Doug Thacker will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, October 16, 2017, at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Buck and Ronnie Sawyer, Bryan and Mikey Wethington, James Wofford, Joe Noe, Sammy Warren and Rob Moore.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested contributions toward funeral expenses.
