Test drive fundraiser at Bob Allen

Bob Allen Chrysler Dodge Jeep Fiat will team up with students at Danville High School for a booster club fundraiser 4-8 p.m today (Friday, Oct. 27), presented by the FCA to benefit the school’s booster club.

Participants can visit Bob Allen at 203 E. Lexington Ave. and take a short test drive in available new vehicles, and FCA U.S. will donate $20 to the Danville High School Booster Club, up to $3,000.

FCA U.S. supports local schools and student enrichment programs in communities across the United States. With the cooperation of local dealers like Bob Allen Chrysler Dodge Jeep Fiat of Danville, the company has helped raise more than $7 million for schools since 1993.

All test drive participants are automatically entered into the 2017 FCA U.S. sweepstakes for a chance to win $45,000 toward an eligible vehicle from any one of the Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, Ram Truck and FIAT brands. A winner will be drawn in early 2018.

Funding the Future offers lessons of finance and discipline

Using the power of a live rock performance to deliver inspirational lessons of finance and disciple to young people, Funding the Future helps students see their dreams as possibilities. The nonprofit’s performance combines a concert, multimedia presentation and talkback to discuss predatory lending, saving early and the danger of credit card debt. Delivering the infectious rock beats and sage advice is GOODING, a four-person rock band based out of Los Angeles. This event will be held Monday, Oct. 30 from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at Centre College’s Norton Center for the Arts. At the end, there will be time for students to ask questions and meet the band.

McDowell Wellness Center offering “self-offense” classes for women

Are you really prepared to do what it takes if your life is threatened? McDowell Wellness Center can help with the new “self-offense” class for women.

 Participants will learn to do what it takes when their life is at stake. Specifically, how to survive the most critical five seconds of their life. Self-offense takes a different approach than self-defense. Self-offense focuses on actions that can be taken during an attack.

 Classes will be held each Wednesday from 7-8:30 p.m. beginning Nov. 1. The cost for McDowell Wellness Center members is $10 and non-members is $20.

The class will be taught by Michael H. Swain, a personal protection agent for the United States Department of Defense and Department of State, a USMC veteran and a personal trainer. For more information or to register, call McDowell Wellness Center at (859) 936-WELL (9355).

Waste tires being accepted

Donna Fechter, Director of Boyle County Solid Waste Management has announced that the Perryville Convenience Center will be accepting waste tires from Boyle County residents 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 16-18. The convenience center is located at 775 Harrodsburg Road, Perryville. Proof of Boyle County residence is required. Not accepted are tires on rims, foam-filled or solid tires and no construction equipment tires. For more information call (859) 319-4803.
