Harlan Thomas Barnett, Sr.

1931-2017

Harlan Thomas Barnett, Sr., 86, of Danville, KY, husband of Wilma Joyce Lawson Barnett, passed away Monday, November 20, 2017. Son of the late Charles E. and Mildred Thomas Barnett, he was born in Danville, Kentucky on March 4, 1931.

He served in the United States Army, 14th Armored Regiment – 7th Army European Occupation Force at Bad Kissingen, West Germany, from 1951 to 1953. Harlan worked 33 years as an I.B.E.W. Journeyman Electrician. Harlan was a current member of the Hedgeville Baptist Church and a past member of Gethsemane Baptist Church. He was a Mason and a member of the Oleika Shrine Temple. His hobby was to fabricate trailers of all types and sizes. 

Harlan loved his family, friends and especially children and was honored in 2014 with the School Bell Award for his volunteer work at the Kentucky School for the Deaf. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Sue Barnett; two sisters, Rachael Walls, Hazel Wooten; four brothers, Herman, Howard, Harold, and Homer Barnett. In addition to his wife, Wilma Joyce Barnett, of 64 years, he is survived by his children, Harlan Thomas (Vicki) Barnett, Jr., Connie Sue (Steve) McGirr; thirteen grandchildren, Misty (Chris) Wilson, Bradley (Augustine) , Bryan Cummins, Leigh (Adam) White, Travis (Ashley) Abrams, Lyndsey, Krista, Sydney (Damani Del Rosario), Travis, Jessica, Michael, Tyler, and Alyvia McGirr; thirteen great-grandchildren, Kayleigh, Evann, and Hunter White, Jackson Abrams, Boone, Reese, and Keene Wilson, Kingston McGirr, Seraphina and Harlan Cummins, Stevie Del Rosario, Lexie Grubbs and Jabe Moore; and a host of nieces and nephews. 

The funeral service will be at 1 pm, Saturday, November 25, 2017, Stith Funeral Home, Danville. Rev. John Kesel will officiate. Interment will be in Deep Creek Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bradley Cummins, Bryan Cummins, Travis Abrams, Chris Wilson, Travis, Michael, and Tyler McGirr, Mani Del Rosario and Hubert Peavler. Honorary pallbearers will be Ed Alsman, Eugene McCowan, Jim Sexton, Charles Shannon, Kenny Grubbs, Tony Green, Harold Lawson, Morris McGirr, Phil Sammons, Happy Belcher, Dallas Knight. 

Visitation will be 5pm-8pm, Friday, November 24, 2017, Stith Funeral Home. Memorial donations are suggested to the Oleika Shrine Temple or Shriner’s Children’s Hospital. The online guestbook is available at www.stithcares.com.
