Prentice Derotha Shewmaker

1932-2017

Prentice Derotha Shewmaker, 85, died Saturday, November 25, 2017. Born June 18, 1932 in Perryville, he was the son of the late Prentice and Irene Emma Hays Shewmaker. He graduated from Perryville High School in 1950 and served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was a self-employed barber in Danville for over 40 years and was a longtime member of First Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Talmadge Glenn “Tuck” Shewmaker.

Prentice is survived by his wife of 51 years, Linda McCormick Shewmaker; a sister, Betty Cummins of Harrodsburg and his nieces and nephews, John Shewmaker, Sandra Lowery, Suzetta (David) Phelps, Tammy Shewmaker, Devon Shewmaker and Robert Roney and great-nephews, Jordan and Joseph Shewmaker. The funeral service will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at Stith Funeral Home, Danville. Rev. Tim Mathis will officiate. Prentice will be buried with Military Honors provided by the American Legion Post # 18 at Camp Nelson National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Robbie Roney, John Shewmaker, Jordan Shewmaker, Joseph Shewmaker, Devon Shewmaker, Karl Luttrell and Robert Hamlin. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m., Tuesday at Stith Funeral Home.
