First time on ice

There’s a first time for everything, including “ice” skating on Main Street near the courthouse. Even though Sunday afternoon felt like a spring day, several people took to the ice for the first time and tried the novelty activity in downtown Danville, including Hannah Bonagofaski, of Stanford, and her 5-year-old daughter Ella. “This is the best surprise ever!” Ella said. Her mother said this was their mother-daughter day and she surprised Ella with ice skating.

Hannah Bonagofaski puts ice skates on her daughter, Ella Sunday afternoon.

Hannah Bonagofaski knows how to ice skate so she helps her daughter get used to the slick surface. Even though Ella likes to roller skate, ice skating took a while to get used to.

After a few tumbles, Ella becomes more confident and takes off without holding on to her mother’s hand or the rail around the rink.

Ella is all smiles after she was able to skate alone and twirl on the ice.
