1929-2018

Betty Sue Ray, 88, of Stanford, Ky., passed away peacefully on Monday, Jan. 29, 2018 at home.

Born December 5, 1929, in Knoxville, Tenn., to the late Joseph and Oma Cunningham Lawson, she was the widow of Carl L. Ray. She was a retired employee of Continental Can of Baltimore, Md;, and a member of Stanford Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Darrell Jeffery Ray (Patsy) of Baltimore, Md., and Dennis Ray (Shelia) of Lincoln County, Ky; one daughter, Linda Bender of Lincoln County, Ky.; one sister, Sylvia “Jean” Lawson (Walter) of Knoxville, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. 

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Tracy L. Ray; five brothers, Joseph Lawson, Jr., Charles Lawson, Warren Lawson, Hugh Lee Lawson, Paul “Butch” Lawson; and three sisters, Margie Jones, Zylphia “Mick” Wallace, and Thelma Gilliam. 

Visitation will be Friday, February 2, 2018 from 6-9 p.m. at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel, Stanford. 

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Stanford Baptist Church with Bro. John Penick officiating. Burial will follow at Buffalo Springs Cemetery in Stanford. 

Casket bearers will be Charles Bender, Eric Bender, Jacob Pike, Josh Ray, and Jacob Ray.
