1932-2018
Lida James Gay, 85, of Lancaster, passed away Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at Landmark of Lancaster.
She was born on October 7, 1932, to the late William and Jessamine Burdine Sharp. Lida was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Gay. Lida retired from Genesco Shoe Factory and Camp Dick Elementary School. She loved her flowers, her birds, (especially cardinals), bus tours with friends, and frequent family trips to Gatlinburg. She was a lifelong member of Bryantsville United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years. The greatest joys of her life, were her grandchildren and her great-grandson, who called her “Maw”.
Surviving is a son, C.W. Gay (Anna); two daughters, Libby Spurlin (Jim) and Judy Black (Charlie), all of Lancaster; sister, Mary Lee Sharp (Horace); three grandchildren, Jessica Spurlin-Graham (Adam), Kimberly Spurlin- Barnes (Scott), and James David Spurlin; and a great-grandson, Colton James Graham.
Along with her parents and husband, Lida is preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Dean Gay Steele; a sister, Margaret Ann Sharp; and a brother, Billy W. Sharp.
Funeral services 2 p.m. Monday, February 12, 2018 at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Sammy Glenn officiating. Burial in Lancaster Cemetery.
