Downtown concert series to be offered every third Thursday through October
The Heart of Danville has announced a new live music series that will entertain a wide variety of music-lovers.
Main Street Live is an 8-month concert series featuring a different band or musician on the third Thursday every month, beginning in March and running through October.
Nick Wade, the Heart’s executive director, told the board Thursday morning that they are “pulling a lot of bands out of Lexington and are getting different acts that don’t play around here a lot.”
He said there will be all sorts of genres, including country, bluegrass, big band and a band that plays covers from the 1990s.
Wade said The Voice contestant, Jonathan Hutcherson, will also be performing in August.
The concert series will be held on the stage at Weisiger Plaza from 6-8 p.m. with music begging at 6:30 p.m.
Food will also be available.
The schedule so far for Main Street Live includes:
• March 15: Lauren Mink
• April 19: Isle of Eight
• May 17: Mike Archer
• June 21:The Throwbacks
• July 19: Travis Lee Kern
• August 16: Jonathan Hutcherson
• September 20: Vinyl Richie
• October 18 performance is yet to be announced.
Wade said the HOD will also be working with a different non-profit each month so they can promote their organization and accept donations.
At the meeting, board chair Logan Germann said, “What a great pollination in our community,” referring to the HOD and non-profits working together. “This will help get people coming downtown on a regular basis.”
Downtown Lexington has had a concert series for 23 years, Wade said, which has attracted thousands of people to the area, and he is excited that HOD will be offering a similar music attraction here.
