The students were part of a statewide tornado drill that occurred at 10:07 a.m., which also included a test of Boyle County’s CodeRed alert system (a mass messaging system alerting of emergencies). There are about 1,200 tornadoes in the U.S., said Emergency Management Director Mike Wilder. “We go through this same thing every year, but it’s still important to mention it.” To sign up for the CodeRed system, visit boyleky.com/fiscal-court. To learn more about ways to be prepared, visit ready.gov/tornadoes.
