Danville’s Main Street will transform into a New Orleans-style street party called Bayou and Brass on Friday, June 1, from 4 to 10 p.m. as part of the Great American Brass Band Festival. The event is open to the public and includes New Orleans-style brass bands, Cajun food and children’s activities.

Bands will begin at 4 p.m., with a gospel performance by the Storyville Stompers at Trinity Episcopal Church on Main Street. At 5:30 p.m., performances will begin on the Weisiger Park stage at the corner of Fourth and Main streets with the Stooges Brass Band from New Orleans; followed by the Storyville Stompers at 6:30 p.m., with a special performance by Danville Dance Company; Circle City Sidewalk Stompers at 7:30 p.m.; and by Dick Domek and the Walnut Street Ramblers at 8 p.m.

Bayou and Brass is for the entire family. Children’s activities will be available from 4 to 8 p.m., including a photo booth, mask making and more. The children’s parasol parade from the library to Main Street will begin at 4:45 p.m., led by the Stooges Brass Band. Parasols, to be decorated in advance for the parade, are available at the Boyle County Public Library throughout the month of May.

“We hope everyone can join us as Main Street comes alive with the sights, sounds and tastes of New Orleans,” said Jenny McClure, coordinator of Bayou and Brass. “It really is something for the whole family to experience.”

Food and beverage vendors will be serving Cajun food and drink, including gumbo, jambalaya, red beans and rice, bourbon chicken, corn bread, beignets, shaved ice and more. Beverages will include Pepsi products, Coors Light, Miller Light, Blue Moon and microbrews from West Sixth and Monnik/Beer Engine. Wilderness Trail Distillery will feature its Harvest Rum and Blue Heron Vodka. Chrisman Mill’s wines and Wineritas will also be served.
