Informed choice is Douglas for jailer

Dear Editor,

As a young voter, candidate experience and knowledge both matter to me. I have made it a point to research the candidates and when possible talk with them about why they are running for office and what they bring to the table. This is why I have given my full support to Rita Douglas for Boyle County Jailer.

Although education is not always the top priority, in this case it is. Rita has a BA degree in sociology, criminal justice and juvenile justice. Rita also has the experience to coordinate with her education. She knows the ins and outs of how a successful prison system should run and that’s what we need in this county. She was an administrator for the Department of Corrections, was a duty officer at Northpoint Training Center, in charge of the prison during rotation, is a current member of the American Correctional Association (ACA), and is also co-founder of the Mutts with Manners for Rescue Dogs Inmate Training Program.

These credentials speak volumes that Ms. Douglas will not only know exactly what she is doing, but she will hit the ground running. We need someone to take charge of the Boyle County Detention Center to make it better, and in turn, make our community better. I could spend days talking about why she is the best person for the job but I encourage you to go read her full biography on her website www.voteexperience.com or www.boylecountyrepublicans.org.

Rita Douglas has never shirked her responsibilities and walked out on an important job. We need a trustworthy candidate that will not run when the times get tough, but stay and fight for our inmates. I have spoken at length with Rita about her ideas for the Boyle County Detention Center. She wants to help the inmates attain a better quality of life, not just punish and release.

I encourage all Boyle County Republicans to show up at the polls on May 22 and cast your vote for Rita Douglas.
