Free hernia screening offered Saturday

Ephraim McDowell Health will be offering a free hernia screening in May at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. Surgical experts will share information about this common, but poorly understood condition. Individuals experiencing any of the following symptoms may benefit from the screening:

• Swelling, a bulge or pain in the abdomen, pelvis or groin area

• Pain or discomfort, especially when bending over, coughing or lifting

• Weakness, pressure or a feeling of heaviness in your abdomen

The screening will take place on Saturday, May 19 at 10 a.m. at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. The screening is free, but pre-registration is recommended by calling (859) 239-2060.

Political forum

The community is invited to a primary election political candidate forum on Thursday, May 17 at the Lions Park Community Center, 450 East Factory Street, Harrodsburg. The forum gives the community an opportunity to meet the candidates at 6 p.m. and then go live on WHBN 1420am and hometownlive.net at 7 p.m.

Candidates for Jailer – Bret “Chambo” Chamberlain and Garland Christopher; and Magistrate District 4 – Donald Webb and Mary Margaret Heaton have been invited.

Each candidate will have up to two minutes to answer questions, approved by the Mercer County Democratic and Republican Party chairs just prior to the forum and handed to Dr. Earl Motzer who will serve as moderator, and up to two minutes each to make closing statements.

The candidates will not be able to ask each other questions and there will be no questions from audience members direct to the candidates in Lions Park.

Sponsors of the Forum are the Mercer County Democrat and Republican Parties, Hometown Radio, Best Sound Around and the Harrodsburg Herald. The Forum will be broadcast live on WHBN 1420am and on the worldwide web at hometownlive.net.

Stanford Cruise-In on May 18 

The Stanford Cruise-In will be 5-8:30 p.m. Friday, May 18, on Main Street in Stanford. Cruise-Ins will be held on the third Friday of the month, May through October. This is hosted by the Lincoln Masonic Lodge #60, Blue Knights of KY XI and the Fort Logan F.O.P. Music by Charlie Napier, “D.J. to the Cars.”
