Mary Givens Field

1949-2018

Mary “Cheryl” Givens Field, 69, died May 3, 2018, with her loved ones by her side in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

She was born January 8, 1949, in Danville, Kentucky to Joseph and Barbara Givens. Most of her youth was spent in Enterprise, Alabama. She graduated from Auburn University in 1968. After graduation she moved to Fort Worth, Texas. Cheryl briefly worked as a physical education teacher. The rest of her time in Texas was spent as a marketing executive for an insurance firm in Fort Worth. Her natural creative abilities lent to a successful career.

She met and later married Kenneth Hunley Field in Fort Worth, Texas in 1993. They moved their family to Colorado Springs from Fort Worth in 1995. Ken established “McVan Maps” in Colorado Springs. Cheryl continued to pursue personal career passions and received her Masters in Counseling from Colorado Christian University in 2000.

Cheryl became a licensed professional counselor and was deeply devoted to the love and care of her clients. She founded Hope for Healing, her private practice, and was co-founder and co-director of Renewing and Rebuilding Ministry at Woodmen Valley Chapel. She was a conference speaker on human brokenness, sexuality, redemption and healing and an author. She has spoken on the topic of female sexual addiction on national and international television.

In 2006, Cheryl, with the help and support of colleagues, opened Tall Oak Counseling Center. The scope of Cheryl’s counseling practice was quite extensive. She poured herself into the work of caring for the hearts of those who were in need. Cheryl’s personal spiritual journey and God’s bigger redemptive story gave her an added depth of understanding, compassion and hope for those desiring to be healed from trauma and set free spiritually. Cheryl designed Leaders of the Dance and Dance of the Soul Conferences for men, women and couples.

She was very committed to healing in the context of the church community. Not only was she actively involved at Woodmen Valley Chapel, but also other church communities across the United States.

Cheryl is survived by her husband, Kenneth Hunley Field; two sons, Britt Robinson Smith and Sterling Lee Field; three grandchildren; her sister, Bromleigh Naftel; and brother, Paul Givens.

Lynda Closson, Cheryl’s closest long-time friend from Kentucky is arranging a graveside service that will be held in Stanford, Kentucky where Cheryl will be buried.
