The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a woman missing since April and will be searching today “for a possible body,” according to Sheriff Curt Folger.

Folger said Monday afternoon that investigators “have no earthly idea” where April Neikirk may be.

“She supposedly had been missing for two weeks prior to them calling in wanting me to do a missing persons report (on Friday,” he said.

Folger said the sheriff’s office received a tip that “she possibly might be in some wooded area.” He’ll be bringing search dogs to the area specified in the tip this morning and searching “for a possible body,” he said.

But, Folger noted, he doesn’t know for sure what happened; Neikirk could still be alive.

“Supposedly she’s been known to leave for days on end and not come back, but then we get a phone call saying that such-and-such possibly might have harmed her,” he said. “…”No one has been arrested … We’re just trying to locate (Neikirk) at this time. We don’t know if anything has happened to her or if she is out and about.”

Jonathan Perkins, a friend of Neikirk’s family, said Neikirk left her daughter’s house in the Waynesburg area of Lincoln County in a 2015 white Chevy Equinox on April 25. Her family members eventually noticed she wasn’t using Facebook and her phone was going straight to voicemail; on Friday, they called to report her missing, Perkins said.

Neikirk has two adult children and two grandchildren, he said.

Folger asked anyone who knows anything about Neikirk’s whereabouts to call the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office at (606) 365-2696.

“If it turns into something more than just a missing person, we will contact KSP and let them take over the investigation,” Folger said. “… Hopefully, we find her in a good way and not in a bad way.”
