- The heavy metal plate covering a 9-foot deep coal chute is badly rusted and unsafe for pedestrians to walk over.
City of Danville employee Ken Stratton worked on removing a large rusted metal plate that covered a 9-foot deep chute once used to dump coal down in front of the Farmers Bank building on West Main Street Tuesday morning. Stratton said the plate was unsafe for pedestrians so the city was having it removed and the chute permanently sealed with bridge decking and concrete.
