Clinton Hurley and Kayla Gonzalez, both of Danville, were arraigned Tuesday morning for involvement in a string of church burglaries in the area.

Huley, 35, of 423 Coldstream Drive, and Gonzalez, 30, of 423 Carrigan Drive, entered not guilty pleas by video in Boyle District Court, however neither will have a bond issued due to parole violations.

Hurley faces two charges of third-degree burglary, third-degree criminal mischief, theft by unlawful taking between $500 and $10,000, and first-degree unlawful access to a computer.

Gonzalez, who is listed as Gonzalez-Gaskin on the Boyle County Detention Center’s website, is facing a charge of first-degree unlawful access to a computer, a Class C Felony.

According to records, Hurley was seen on video surveillance entering Immanuel Baptist Church in the early hours of May 12, causing minor damage to the door. The case was investigated by the Boyle County Sheriff’s Office.

Also, Hurley was observed unlawfully entering the Calvary Baptist Church property and removing items, worth more than $500. Files say he was caught on camera and was “clearly identifiable.”

The file on Gonzalez states at 1:30 p.m. on May 12, she used a stolen credit or debit card at an ATM inside the Brookcove gas station on Shakertown Road, withdrawing $200. It is unclear where the card was taken from, but was reported stolen just prior to her use of it. She was also identified from video footage in the store.

Hurley was identified through video footage used a debit/credit card on May 17 to withdraw $304 from the Farmers Bank ATM on Lexington Road. The card was stolen from First Christian Church on Lexington Road.

Danville Police Chief Tony Gray said it’s likely more charges are pending against the pair. Besides Immanuel Baptist Church, First Christian Church and Calvary Baptist Church, there was a break-in reported at Stoney Point Baptist Church and a theft from a car at the Living Water Worship Center. They are suspected to be connected, but police have not confirmed all of the cases involved yet.

Since both Hurley and Gonzalez face parole violations for previous arrests, neither will be granted bail. According to the Kentucky Online Offenders Lookup (KOOL), Hurley was previously convicted on a charge of theft by unlawful taking between $500 and $10,000 out of Fayette County. He was to remain on parole until at least Sept. 24. 

Also according to KOOL, Gonzalez (who is listed under Gaskin) has previous convictions out of Pulaski County for theft by unlawful taking of a firearm and theft by unlawful taking between $500 and $10,000. She was to remain on parole until at least Nov. 29. 

Gonzalez is schedule to reappear at 1:30 p.m. on May 30. She was appointed a public defender.
