Bunny Davis Recreation Center pool is open

Come on in, the water’s fine!

The public pool at Bunny E. Davis Recreation Center is open and splashing with kids and adults despite a public perception that the center is closed.

On Wednesday afternoon, more than 55 kids who were participating in the Boyle County Parks and Rec summer day camp were swimming, sliding and playing. Families picnicked in the grass, parents taught their kids how to swim and others stretched out on lawn chairs to work on their tans.

The pool is open from noon to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1-6 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is $2 per person whether they’re swimming or not, and children under age 10 must be accompanied by an adult.

Callie Mauldin hides from the sun under a beach towel. She said she had a sun burn on her shoulders and didn’t want to make it worse.

The Parks and Rec summer camp runs on weekdays through July 27 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cost is $50 a week per child and is $25 per additional sibling. Kids can also attend for $12 per day. The cost includes lunch.

In the mornings, campers have activities such as going to the movies and library, taking tennis clinics and going to Party on Air to bounce. The afternoons are spent swimming.
