James Curtis Martin
1928-2018
James Curtis Martin, age 90, formerly of Warren, passed away peacefully, June 27, 2018 at his residence surrounded by his family.
James was born April 25, 1928 in Warren to the late Myron and Ruth (Labb) Martin. He was a student at Youngstown College when he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was a Photographic Laboratory Technician for the Army, serving in the Pacific theatre. Upon his return, he completed his education at Youngstown College earning his bachelor’s degree.
James was an Engineer for General Electric Trumbull Lamp Plant for over 40 years, retiring in 1990. While at Trumbull Lamp, he developed a filament used specifically in the lights of the Statue of Liberty’s torch.
He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Danville, Kentucky and belonged to the American Legion in Malvern. He enjoyed volunteering for Habitat for Humanity and was proud of his years as Scoutmaster with Boy Scout Troop 11 in Warren, Ohio.
Besides his parents, James is preceded in death by his son David, daughter Kathleen, and brother John.
James is survived by his wife of 69 years, the former Glendora Collins, who he married February 25, 1949; his children, Margaret Hill, Elizabeth (Tom) Williams, Christopher (Nancy) Martin, and Timothy (Amy) Martin; 10 grandchildren, Jennifer Kruger, Carrie Bush, Katie Gabric, Matthew Martin, Jessica Martin, Joshua Martin, Jenna Rieder, Andrew Martin, Emily Martin, Molly Martin, and 11 great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11a.m. Friday, July 20, 2018 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 2860 E. Market St. in Warren with Pastor Lang Collins officiant.
