Army officer and Lexington VA Medical Center nurse Captain Ryan Barnes presented the Ambassador for Peace Medal to Korean War Army Veteran Edward Francis Barrett on May 25, in the ICY at Cooper Division of the Veteran’s Hospital.  Barrett is 90 years old.

The Ambassador for Peace Medal, under the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, is for all Korean War Veterans who served in Korea for their service and sacrifice in keeping Korea free from communism.

Barrett served his country and returned to Lancaster where he owned and operated Barrett’s Furniture and Carpet Stores for more than 40 years.

Barrett’s daughter, Debra Frances Hoskins, her husband, Willie and Barrett’s grandsons were present for the special occasion. Hoskins works with the Korean War and World War II Memorials in Washington, D.C. on special events. When Jim Fisher, director of the Korean War Memorial, and his staff found out her father was a Korean War Veteran, they wanted to do something for him, so they researched and verified his records and sent the medal for the presentation. Many nurses and staff members came to support the family during the presentation, also.
