Kentucky State Treasurer Allison Ball gave birth to a son, Levi Adrian Swan, on Tuesday, her office announced. Baby Levi was born weighing 6 lbs., 15 oz. and measuring 20.5 inches.

“Asa and I are excited to welcome our son into the world. We are thankful for this blessing from God and grateful for our family, friends, Dr. Cornelia Poston, and the staff of Norton’s Healthcare in Louisville for all their support during this exciting season,” Ball said.

The child is the first born to Ball and her husband, Asa James Swan. The family is recovering well.

Ball is the first Kentucky constitutional officer in history to give birth while in office, a fact confirmed by Al Cross, journalism professor at the University of Kentucky and political columnist for the Louisville Courier Journal, where he was a political writer for many years.

“Without fear of contradiction, I am comfortable concluding that Treasurer Ball is the first Kentucky Constitutional Officer to give birth while in office,” Cross said in a statement.

The baby’s middle name, Adrian, is after Ball’s great-uncle, Adrian Lafferty, a Korean War Veteran and businessman from her native Floyd County in eastern Kentucky.

Elected in 2015, Ball is also currently the nation’s youngest female statewide elected official.
