Gov. Bevin makes appointment to Kentucky Boards and Commissions

FRANKFORT – Gov. Matt Bevin made the following appointment to Kentucky Boards and Commissions:

Ashley Powell has been appointed to the Kentucky Board of Emergency Medical Services. Powell, of Eubank, is a paramedic and executive director of Lincoln County EMS. He will represent basic life support, licensed Class 1 ambulance service administrators, and serve a term expiring Sept. 19, 2019.

The Kentucky Board of Emergency Medical Services is charged with regulating EMS licenses and ensuring all licensed and certified EMS workers in Kentucky practice within the state’s code of conduct for emergency services.

Post 15 to conduct safety traffic checkpoints

COLUMBIA — Kentucky State Police, Post 15 will be conducting safety traffic checkpoints in the Post 15 area, which includes Washington, Marion, Taylor, Green, Casey, Russell, Adair, Metcalfe, Monroe, Clinton and Cumberland. Troopers will be checking for impaired drivers, children that are not properly restrained in child safety seats and informing the public about the use of seatbelts. These safety checkpoints will be conducted in various locations throughout the Post 15 area that are experiencing a high ratio of vehicular crashes resulting in injury and/or death compared to relatively low safety restraint usage ratio.

Annual wildlife refuge night hike

Once a year, visitors are allowed to visit the Central Kentucky Wildlife Refuge after dark. This year, that night will be Saturday, Aug. 11 at 8 p.m.

The exact nature of this walk will depend on the weather. If the weather is clear enough, there will be a telescope set up in the meadow by the Island Pond. After a short nature walk, visitors will be able to use the telescope to view celestial objects. Since the Refuge is located far from city lights it is an excellent location for watching the Persied Meteor Shower, which will be near its peak.

If the skies are not clear, the nature walk will be extended. This event will only be cancelled if there is severe weather in the area.
