Perryville City Clerk Amy Vonlinger has been released of her duties as of Monday morning, according to the mayor and city attorney.

Vonlinger, who was hired in October, was terminated by Mayor Anne Sleet, with assistance from City Attorney Winfield Frankel.

Sleet initially requested any questions be posed to Frankel, and would only say that Vonlinger “… is no longer with us.”

Frankel said Vonlinger just wasn’t the right fit for the city.

Later, Sleet said, “The job may have just been more than what she thought it would be. I couldn’t do it.”

Vonlinger was the second person hired to replace Mona Followell. Followell had been city clerk for 27 years before she retired in September 2017.

She was replaced by Bill Chance, who trained with Followell, according to Sleet, for her last month on the job. Sleet said shortly after sitting in on his first Perryville City Council meeting, Chance offered up his resignation.

“I will say I appreciated Bill letting me know he couldn’t do it, and that it wasn’t for him,” Sleet said. “It’s a really hard job, and it’s not for everyone.”

Vonlinger could not be reached for comment.
