Lincoln man killed in buggy accident

CRAB ORCHARD — An Amish man from Crab Orchard was fatally injured early Wednesday afternoon when his horse-drawn buggy was hit by the driver of an SUV.
Bruce Troyer, 52, was traveling north on Ky. 39 when Mary A. Carter, 64, driving a 2005 Ford Expedition in the same direction, hit him from behind, according to Kentucky State Police.
The impact threw Troyer from his buggy and he sustained fatal injuries.
Lincoln County Coroner Farris Marcum pronounced Troyer dead at the scene at 12:56 p.m. The accident occured just north of Crab Orchard near the Lincoln County Produce Auction area. Troyer’s horse was found uninjured.
According to Kentucky State Police, Carter was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of intoxicants. Thursday morning she appeared in Lincoln County Circuit Court and a $50,000 cash bond was set.
KSP Trooper David Hobbs is the investigating officer. According to KSP spokesperson Robert Purdy, more charges could be filed following a complete investigation.
