A large patch of sunflowers lining Kentucky School for the Deaf’s garden off of Second Street are now bursting with bright yellow flower heads. The tall flower stems sway in the breeze and the heavy flower heads seem to bow as butterflies and bees land on them. KSD principal Toyah Robey said all of the flowers grown this year came from seeds of only three flowers that students saved from last year’s crop. She said students in the school’s agriculture class grew the flowers which will be used in their floral arranging class and may sell a few to local florists since sunflowers have become very popular. She said students plan on collecting more seeds this year in order to expand their sunflower crop next growing season.
