Guthrie hasn’t helped the Second District

Dear Editor,

I just received another of those glossy postcards from Brett Guthrie, the man who isn’t there. The picture of a white baby looming over his declaration of 100 percent pro-life, he lists numerous votes he has taken over his several terms.

Ever since the second district was gerrymandered to assure the GOP dominance while simultaneously weakening the Democrat hold on the 6th District, Guthrie has enjoyed complete autonomy. No wonder he has remained oblivious to the needs of his constituents. Listing several anti-abortion stands, he begins with defunding Planned Parenthood.

Does he tell you there are no Planned Parenthood facilities in the Second District? Or that the primary function of Planned Parenthood is reproductive health care? He doesn’t mention that the U.S. leads the industrialized world in in maternal deaths. Women are again dying in childbirth at alarming rates.

Guthrie’s second brag about voting to ban federally funded abortions is just another of his hundreds of symbolic votes that he knows have no meaning. The ban of federally funded abortions was in place before he ever sought office. He had nothing to do with it. Not a single mention of the ZERO abortions in the second district. Why? Because he had absolutely nothing to do with that either.

Guthrie has been totally irrelevant to anything involving abortion in Kentucky or anywhere else.

As for the care of live children, he has been devastating. He does not mention in his many brags about cutting food stamps. Nor does he show his voting record of consecutive votes to repeal without replacement the Affordable Care Act. He has publicly stated he repeatedly voted to repeal the ACA because he knew repeal would never become law and he wouldn’t have to take any actions.

His inaction is just one of many reasons we don’t have that greater, cheaper healthcare that was promised by candidate Trump. Inept execution and marked indifference are his response regarding the children separated at the border. Who does he believe he is protecting? Certainly not living children. Prolife? Not so much. We cannot allow Guthrie’s sideshow drama to divert us.
