CASA volunteer orientation Sept. 24

CASA of the Bluegrass (court-appointed special advocate) will hold a volunteer orientation at 6 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 24, at its office, 473 West Walnut St. This event will inform attendees about the work CASA does in the community and what it takes to be a CASA volunteer.

Free copies of MLK’s last book to be given away

Citizens Concerned for Human Relations (CCHR) is giving away free copies (one per family) of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s last book he wrote titled, “Where Do We Go From Here Chaos or Community?” Later in October there will be several discussions about the book to be held at various locations. The sites and times of the discussions will be confirmed at the time you pick  up the book.

You may pick up a copy of “Where Do We Go From Here Chaos or Community?” from the Danville-Boyle County Public Library from:

• 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25

• 1-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27

• 3-5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30

In 1967 King isolated himself from the demands of the civil rights movement, rented a house in  Jamaica with no telephones and labored over his final manuscript.

In this prophetic work, which has been unavailable for more than 10 years, King lays out his thoughts, plans and dreams for America’s future, including the need for better jobs, decent housing and quality education.

With a universal message of hope that continues to resonate, King demanded an end to global suffering, asserting that humankind — for the first time — has the resources and technology to eradicate poverty.
