News release
Every March, Danville Rotary hosts its annual International Dinner, the organization’s only fundraising event, at Centre College’s Chowan Hall. This year’s dinner is from 6 to 9 p.m. on March 16. Each dinner raises funds for local projects, which have included soccer fields at the community park, refurbishing space at a senior center and contributing to the new building at the Humane Society.
The goal for this year is to complete a two-year, $20,000+ commitment to the Bluegrass Community and Technical College Danville Campus’ new Advanced Manufacturing Facility. Rotary’s donation will help the college increase the number of graduates coming out of its industrial maintenance, manufacturing and electrical technology programs.
The expanded capabilities will result in a well-trained, technically advanced workforce for many local industries. The expansion will include an additional 15,000 square feet, with three new classrooms. There will also be four lab spaces with high bay ceilings, robotics and other equipment designed to replicate the industrial environment students will enter after graduation.
A portion of the proceeds of the dinner also provides funding for numerous local programs such as Rotary Youth Leadership Awards, high school speech contests, global scholarship awards, project graduations, grants for arts organizations, dictionaries for every third-grade child in the county, and support for the Great American Brass Band Festival.
