Gov. makes appointments

FRANKFORT — Gov. Matt Bevin has appointed David Shane New of Crab Orchard as a member of the Geographic Information Advisory Council. New, a director of community planning, will represent the Council of Area Development Districts and serve for a term expiring Sept. 22, 2021.
The Geographic Information Advisory Council advises the executive director of the Commonwealth Office of Technology on issues relating to geographic information and geographic information systems. It also establishes and adopts policies and procedures that assist state and local jurisdictions in developing, deploying, and leveraging geographic information resources and geographic information systems technology for the purpose of improving public administration.
Paul David Playforth of Stanford was appointed by the governor to serve as a member of the Judicial Nominating Commission for the 28th Judicial Circuit and District of Kentucky for a term expiring Jan. 1, 2020. Playforth is an auctioneer and realtor.
The Judicial Nominating Commission for the 28th Judicial Circuit and District of Kentucky includes the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court (serving as chair), two members from the Kentucky Bar Association, and four gubernatorial appointees who are not members of the Kentucky Bar Association (equally representing the two major political parties). Members cannot hold any other public office or any office in a political party or organization.
