A new trial date has been set for a Boyle County man who allegedly killed his wife last year.

Colin J. Montgomery, 30, was arrested March 7, 2018, on a murder charge following the shooting death of his wife, Jennifer Montgomery, 27, outside of the couple’s home on Shakertown Road on the evening of March 6.

The trial is now scheduled for Boyle County Circuit Court, beginning on Oct. 14. It was originally set to begin Aug. 26.

Last week, Montgomery’s defense attorney filed a document stating they would be having a mental health professional testify as to Montgomery’s mental status at the time of the shooting.

On the night of the shooting, Boyle County sheriff’s deputies found Montgomery holding a phone and multiple firearms according to the Advocate-Messenger archives.

He allegedly shot his wife because he believed she was having an affair. A Kentucky State Police trooper said children were in the home at the time of the shooting.

On Dec. 12, a judge ordered that Montgomery was found to be competent to stand trial for the murder charge.

Montgomery has been lodged in the Boyle County Detention Center since last year. He is being held on a $500,000 cash bond.
