On behalf of the Wilderness Trace Chapter of Kentuckians for the Commonwealth (KFTC), we wish to thank Kentucky Utilities (KU) for releasing the Phase 1 and Phase 2 study report on the health of Herrington Lake. We are reviewing the results and as the report is quite lengthy and full of technical data, we are calling on KU to hold a public information meeting. We would appreciate the participation of Ramboll, the independent environmental consulting firm, in any public meeting.

As the KFTC chapter that includes three of the counties impacted by the water quality of Herrington Lake, we have been following the progress of the KU’s Corrective Action Plan (CAP) and know that our fellow residents have questions and concerns that were not allayed by the Ramboll study results.

In addition, we would like to hear more about KU’s closure plans for the coal ash ponds and the new treatment facilities being built for the coal combustion materials and the environmentally protective landfill.

As KU continues to stress its commitment to the environment and its desire to be a good neighbor, we would like the opportunity to talk through the study and the CAP and to include as many area residents as possible.  KFTC Wilderness Trace Chapter would be happy to serve as host for such a public meeting. 

We look forward to a healthy and constructive discussion on this issue impacting so many of us.
