Seven people, including three current inmates, allegedly involved in a scheme to promote dangerous contraband into the Boyle County Detention Center have been charged following nearly a month-long investigation.

BCDC Chief Deputy Chad Holderman said, “We’ve got evidence that shows that we’ve had contraband being brought in on at least two different occasions.”

Holderman said officers found the second instance of contraband being introduced into the facility in a “secured area, but not within the walls” of the jail. The contraband consisted of pills and a powdery substance, and were not in baggies, Holderman said.

Holderman said their investigation showed that the contraband had been brought into the jail once earlier, and plans were being made for a third attempt.

“We worked from there gaining information to what the plans were to do it again,” Holderman said.

“And we were able to stop it at that point.”

Holderman said the drugs are still at a lab to be positively identified, which will then be evidence in the upcoming trials of the people involved.

“That’s one great thing about us getting ahead of this — stopping it before they get in,” Holderman said. 

Inmates are not cooperating with the investigation, Holderman said. “They just don’t.”

But the jail has other “investigative tools,” Holder added. “All visits are done by video and are recorded; all phone conversations are recorded; text messages are recorded.”

Lt. Michael Clem, who is an investigator of the case, “has spent a lot of hours going through videos,” Holderman said. “And other tools that will link people to each other that gives us leads we can follow. Some are dead ends and some will pop up and lead to good things — for us.”

Those arrested were:

• Angela Dawn Daughtery, Lancaster: two counts first-degree promoting contraband; first-degree complicity first-degree promoting contraband.
• Lesha Cornett, Danville: two counts first-degree promoting contraband; first-degree complicity first-degree promoting contraband.
• Roy Reynolds, Lancaster: first-degree facilitation promoting contraband.

Three current inmates who were charged are:

• Andrew Lucas Horn, 35, Harrodsburg: two counts first-degree complicity promoting contraband.
• Roger Cornett, 48, Danville: two counts first-degree complicity promoting contraband.
• Joshua Denson, 36, Junction City: two counts first-degree complicity promoting contraband.

There are active warrants for another person who was allegedly involved in the scheme. The suspect’s name will be released once the warrants are served, Holderman said.
