Names added to Veterans Wall

The following names were recently added to the Veterans Wall of Honor at the Boyle County Fairgrounds:

John (JT) Thomas Gray, United States Army, WWII; Steven Allen McGirr, U.S. Navy, 1974-1978; Harlan T. Barnett Sr., US. Army, 1951-1953.

Blood drive at Gravel Switch Community Center

The American Red Cross has an emergency need for blood and platelet donations to help end a summer blood shortage. A local blood drive will be held at Gravel Switch Community Center, 640 Gravel Switch Road Gravel Switch, on Wednesday, Aug. 28 from 4-8 p.m. The Red Cross is thanking those who help overcome the shortage with a $5 Amazon gift card via email. Ephraim McDowell Health is sponsoring free health screenings at Centenary United Methodist Church in Danville on Wednesday, Sept. 4 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Screenings include cholesterol, glucose, blood pressure, body mass index, take-home colorectal cancer screening kits (over age 50), stroke risk and heart rate. Participants should not eat 12 hours prior to their screening if they would like to have the blood test that gives them a full lipid panel. Medications except for diabetic medications may be taken with water. Walk-ins are welcome but appointments are recommended by calling (859) 236-4800. The screenings are open to the public for anyone 12 years of age and older. Children ages 12 to 17 must be accompanied by a custodial parent.
