The status of recycling in our community was the topic of the September meeting of the Garden Club of Danville. Angie Muncie, new manager of Boyle County’s recycling program explained the challenges facing both city and county now that China is no longer buying America’s recycled waste. Garden Club members who brought drinks to the meeting were asked to bring their containers to the front of the room, where Muncie discussed which could be recycled and which were most damaging to the environment. The best solution, she said, is to drastically reduce the amount of disposable products we use, so the reusable metal cup is the preferred container.
