Boyle County Schools held its first Parent Fest on Tuesday, Sept. 17. More than 200 people attended the event.

“We are incredibly pleased with our inaugural Parent Fest,” commented Stephanie Wade, technology integration specialist for Boyle County Schools, who organized the event. “I appreciate the support of all our collaborators, including Food Services staff, Family and Consumer Science students, high school ambassadors, community partners, and especially, our presenters. We could not have been successful without their willingness to help.”

Parent Fest included topics aimed at student success, vaping and e-cigarettes, and mental health, among others. The topics were selected based on feedback from last year’s Basic Needs Survey, as indicated by parents as those in which they were most interested.

A free fiesta meal prepared by Boyle County Schools Food Services provided families with a delicious, healthy meal. After dinner, attendees’ children stayed with the Boyle County High School Family and Consumer Science teachers and students while their parents were attending sessions.

“Last evening provided a great opportunity to learn more about topics that not only help my child but also me as a parent,” stated Amy Isola, parent of a student at Boyle County High School. “From college planning to parenting tips to gifted and talented services, I felt like it was a great evening and I walked away with helpful and practical information. I appreciate Boyle County Schools for providing this event to parents.”

Several community partners were at the event, including the health department, a career center, insurance companies and the Boyle County Public Library, which offered some special experiences for the children.

Ms. Libby from the library read to them and they all were allowed to select a free book to keep from the Bookmobile.
