If there could be only one word to describe Tressa Miller, it would be friendly.

“I think we need to work on getting the students more aware of what’s going on,” said one of the newest faculty members that is a counselor of Danville High School, Ms. Tressa Miller.

Miller, one of the newest faculty members at Danville High School, is mostly known for her teaching at Bate Middle School from 2013 to 2019.

She took this job offer because she wanted to get a better understanding of what the students at DHS go through and how she and the other counselors can help. Miller said that the school needs to work on, “Getting the students more aware of what goes on and more involved so they’re not left out.”

DHS has a uniquely challenging position in terms of keeping students and families in the loop, due to KSD’s close location as the deaf community and the hearing community are limited in the ability to communicate equally for both a deaf and hearing person. Miller said DHS offers ASL classes as part of what it does to be inclusive for deaf families. “And whenever we have an academic meeting with a deaf family, we will have an interpreter brought in so it will be easier to communicate. and to have student needs equal as well so they don’t have their education interrupted.”

Miller stated that even though she just started this year at DHS, she “really likes working here ̈ so far. The students and staff of Danville High School hope that Miller has a good first year at Danville High School and that she is able to maintain a larger relationship with the students.
