“As we celebrate the college’s 200th anniversary, we recognize that Centre would not be what it is today without the people and community surrounding it,” said Director of Alumni & Family Engagement Megan Haake Milby. “Whether it’s the schools, city hall, local agencies or the heart of downtown, Centre is grateful for the support and generosity of the Danville and Boyle County communities. We hope this festival acknowledges and celebrates that partnership.”

Inspired by Centre’s motto, “Doctrina Lux Mentis,” which translates to, “Learning is the light of the mind,” the LUX concert schedule is lined with performances on the Festival Lawn by Centre alumni, students and professors who are all successful musicians, and will conclude with a headliner concert by country music artist Walker Hayes.

Hayes recorded the RIAA certified top-10 hit “You Broke Up With Me” and has toured with the likes of Dan + Shay, Thomas Rhett and Old Dominion.

The festival coordinators, Milby and bicentennial intern Morgan Rahe, say the event is designed to offer a “true small town street festival vibe,” all while showcasing the best of Centre in a lineup of performances that will appeal to a broad audience, with music ranging from bluegrass and country to rock and party music from several talented Centre alumni and professors.

In addition to the music, West Sixth Brewery, along with other food trucks, will line West Walnut Street, which will be closed to traffic between College Street and Old Centre. Other features will include a KIDS Corner from 1 to 4 p.m. with interactive kid-centric activities like face painting, sidewalk chalk and The Bubble Bug. College and festival merchandise will also be available for purchase.
