Utility pole on Maple Avenue damaged after being struck by DUI

Maple Avenue was shut down in both directions for several hours on Wednesday due to a one-vehicle crash which snapped a utility pole in half.
Brandon T. Pickett, 38, of Harrodsburg was arrested following the accident.
Picket was driving a 2002 Nissan Altima northbound on Maple Avenue around 11:20 a.m. Wednesday and veered off the road and onto the right shoulder curbing, striking a utility pole head-on. The vehicle stopped facing southbound in the opposing lane.
According to Danville Police, exposed live wires were on the ground after the pole snapped in half. It took utility workers several hours to repair the pole and lines.
Picket was taken by ambulance to Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center, where he was treated and released into police custody. He was charged with driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs at taken to the Boyle County Detention Center. His front-seat passenger was not injured.
