Two people remain in the hospital following a shooting at a club on South Fourth Street early Sunday morning.

As of Monday morning, Danville police had not released the victims’ names.

A male, age 23, and a female, age 22, were shot in the parking lot behind Club 859ers on 512 S. Fourth St., according to Assistant Chief Glenn Doan. The male was flown to the University of Kentucky Hospital, where he remains unable to answer police questions, Doan said. The female is still recovering at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center and hasn’t provided any information yet, he said.

At 1:23 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, Danville Police officers were responding to Club 859ers due to an altercation that was reported to be in progress. Before arriving, police received information that shots had been fired, according to Doan. Officers estimated that more than 30 people were on scene at the time of the shooting, but they were scattering as police arrived, Doan said.

Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the shooting and identify the individuals involved.

Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact the Danville Police Department at (859) 238-1220. Doan said they also will take any anonymous tips.

This was not the first report of shots being fired in that area, according to police.

On July 7, police investigators recovered at least 80 rounds of spent shell casings that were fired from three different weapons between the area of Club 859ers and the Danville Church of God. No injuries were reported, but a parked car and the church building were hit, Doan said at that time.
