Farmers National Bank is immediately taking steps to make its East Main Street branch more safe and secure following a second robbery there in less than six months on Wednesday. It is located at 211 East Main St., directly across from the post office.

Thursday afternoon, CEO Greg Caudill sent out a statement that the branch now has a security officer on location every day. He added, “Our primary concern is the safety of our customers and our staff. Accordingly, we are taking additional security precautions, which include fencing around most of the property and new and improved video equipment focused on areas not now covered.”

“Fortunately, no one was physically injured,” during the robbery, Caudill said. “Thanks to all who reached out to our staff to offer support. We appreciate you more than you know.”

Bank Vice-president and Director of Marketing Sharon Howell said with the tall fencing being installed around the perimeter of the building, along with the addition of more surveillance equipment and security guard, “We’re being proactive.”

On Wednesday, Oct. 30, officers with Danville Police Department and the Boyle County Sheriff’s Office responded to the bank robbery shortly before noon, and began searching for the male suspect who fled on foot.

He was described as a white male wearing a black jacket, gloves, a white scarf around the lower part of his face and sunglasses.

In a previous incident less than six months earlier, on July 2, a man entered the bank wearing a black hoodie, black ski mask, yellow gloves, blue jeans and dark sunglasses while customers were inside. He demanded money, then also fled on foot.

Danville Chief Tony Gray said on Wednesday the crimes feature a “similar MO, but it’s way too early to say” whether they are connected.
