Boyle County Schools celebrated Veterans Day through a variety of programs in the district’s schools. 

Boyle County High School invited local veterans to breakfast and an assembly, where they were recognized. The assembly also acknowledged families of those who have served or are serving, as well as students who are planning to serve in the armed forces. The program was organized by government teacher Tyler Murphy’s class, including Valerie Fieberg, who spearheaded the event. 

Of the event, Fieberg said, “Today’s Veterans Day assembly at Boyle County High School was very touching to me and to the students, teachers and staff of BCHS. Seeing the student body give a standing ovation to the veterans who sat before us twice today was a very heartwarming experience. As the student body stood up, I saw the veterans’ faces light up with pride and honor. Recognizing the family and friends of fellow classmates made our assembly special because we walk the halls and sit in classes every day with people who have significant relationships with veterans who have fought and served our country with dignity, courage, and honor.” 

Junction City Elementary School had an assembly, where Navy veteran Steve McGirr, stepfather of fifth-grade teacher Misty Wilson, spoke to the children. The school then hosted students’ veteran family members for lunch, as did Perryville Elementary School. Woodlawn Elementary School also held an assembly and Army veteran Jarod Mills, father of third grader Haven Mills, addressed the students. Boyle County Middle School social studies classes learned about Veterans Day through presentations and discussions.
