1923-2019

Alice Hourigan Allen Chambers, 96, passed away November 20, 2019 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Alice was born October 2, 1923 to the late Roy Barnett Hourigan and Ona Mary Chambers. She is survived by two sons Robert Barnett (Louise) Allen, and George Dennis (Patsy) Allen, two daughters Alicia Jane Lawson, and Leona Chambers (Ed) Royalty-Berg, grandsons Sam Allen, Ryan Norvell and Seph Allen, granddaughters Angela Allen, Amy V. Tipton, Amy Sparks, Delana Vigil, Becky Bennett, and Bethany Weaver , as well as 28 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren, three sisters Jeanne (Arthur) Burch, June (Ted) Bridgewater, and Darnell (Herman) Davis

In addition to her parents, Alice was preceded in death by her husband Paul Neal Chambers, three daughters Sarah Martina Allen, Vicki Ann Chambers and Debbie Sue Burton, two sisters Gloriana Crain and Mary Taylor, three brothers Wilson, David and Roy B. Hourigan and great granddaughter Natil Bennett.

Alice received her Master’s Degree from Eastern Kentucky University and was a Reading Specialist for over 26 years, completing her career at Boyle County Middle School. She was a dedicated teacher, encouraging her students both inside and outside the classroom. She was a voracious reader and wanted all her students to discover its wonder.

She was a lover of life in all its facets from hosting large formal dinners to campsite cooking over a bonfire. She reveled in sunbathing and loved ocean swimming, hiking in the woods, climbing mountains and working in her numerous flower gardens. The UK Wildcats have lost their most devoted fan.

A Celebration of Life service will be Monday, November 25, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Perryville Christian Church with Pastor Joe Hood officiating. Services are under the direction of Walden Funeral Home.
