1930-2019
Verna McCowan, 89, of Danville, passed away Sunday December 22, 2019 at Charleston Healthcare in Danville. She was widowed by Chester Cochran after 37 years of marriage and by Harold McCowan after 27 years of marriage.
Verna was born on April 15, 1930 in Gravel Switch, KY to the late Ernest and Ruby Adams Conder. Verna enjoyed tending her flowers, growing and canning vegetables, music, quilting and feeding ‘her’ birds and squirrels. While able, she was active in church and enjoyed cooking for and being with her church family.
She greatly enjoyed visiting with Sissy (niece) and Danny Hargis who regularly brought sunshine into her life. Verna loved her family deeply. She was a gift from God to her children. Surviving are five sons, Chester Donald Cochran, Jr. (Mary) of Merrillville, Indiana, Carl William Cochran (Mickie) of Port St. Lucie, Florida, James Earl Cochran of Junction City, KY, Donald Glen Cochran (Sue) of Portage Indiana, and Allen Wayne Cochran of Chesterton, Indiana; two daughters, Ruby Lee Simms (Lelio) of Argentina and Patty Kaye Derton (Randy) of Waverly Tennessee; stepchildren Maris McCowan of Indiana, Phyllis King of Indiana, Kathy (Dale) Wright of Texas, and Jerry (Janice) McCowan of Kentucky; one brother, Howard Conder of Gravel Switch, KY; nineteen grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Earl Conder, two sisters, Myrtle Preston and Louise Hancock, and stepdaughter Valerie Roberts.
Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Saturday December 28, 2019 at Preston Pruitt Spurlin Funeral Home with Bro. Junior Fields officiating. Visitation will be 11:00 am until service time. Burial will be in Junction City Cemetery. www.preston-pruitt.com
